Paul Sieving, M.D., Ph.D.
 

Dr. Sieving is the Director of the National Eye Institute (NEI) which serves as the administrative institute for the Nanomedicine initiative. His formal training is in physics, biomedical engineering and medicine. He came to the NIH in 2001 from the University of Michigan Medical School and continues work in the genetic basis for retinal and macular degenerations and the basic neurobiology of the retinal cells that degenerate and lead to vision loss. He also conducts clinical investigations with individuals who have these conditions, and their families, and studies treatments that might slow the degeneration.
